Mr. Joon Sang Ko

Joon Sang Ko is a classically trained pianist and a teacher proficient in English and Korean. He has taught piano for over a decade and has worked with students of varying ages, ranging from as young as five to adult students. He has strived to provide a cordial lesson environment to yield musically enriching experiences adapted to students’ levels, learning styles, and needs. He welcomes a non-classical repertoire that students find delightful and encourages the fulfillment of their individual musical goals. Furthermore, he values collaboration with families for students’ learning process and appreciates their open communication and support.
Joon Sang has extensive collaborative experience with solo and chamber musicians and ensembles, including choirs, orchestras, wind, and contemporary ensembles of different genres and styles. These have shaped his holistic approach to music, fostering artistic intuition in students. Moreover, he is committed to facilitating excellence in their performance, self-confidence, and love for music by supporting the development of their creative voice.
Joon Sang received his Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance degree from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, actively performing both as a choir singer and an accompanist. He also holds a Master of Music in Piano Performance and a Master of Collaborative Piano degree from Ithaca College, and he was a recipient of the conservatory’s Graduate Scholarship and Assistantship. He received piano pedagogy training from Ithaca College’s Teaching Intern Program (TIPS), where he learned quality teaching under professional supervision. He also served as a judge and teacher for New York State’s Music Teachers National Association (MTNA). He is a graduate of Columbia Theological Seminary with the degrees of Master of Divinity and Theology as well.
