Helena Waterous

Soprano Helena Waterous has received international praise for her unique vocal beauty, expressivity, and versatility as a singer and performer. She has performed in opera theaters and recital halls across the US and Europe, and has recently made her operatic film debut. She is a passionate musician and storyteller and loves bringing characters and poetry to life onstage. She has recently appeared with Berlin Dramatic Voices, Chicago Summer Opera, Cali Opera Theater, the Trentino Music Festival, New York Lyric Opera, and as a resident artist and board member of Brooklyn Telemann Chamber Society. As a dramatic soprano, Helena specializes in German opera, as well as art song repertoire of the 19thand 20th Century. She is also a co-founder and Executive Director of Opera Atlantic, a New Jersey-based arts non-profit organization.
Helena is a dedicated educator and has emphasized the study of vocal pedagogy in her degree work. Her approach to vocal technique is scientifically-based and creates a solid foundation for singers of any genre—from opera to pop! She strongly believes that holistic development is vital to an artistic career, and incorporates elements of movement, stagecraft, and communication into her teaching. Helena holds an Artist Diploma from Montclair State University, an MM from Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music, and a BM from SUNY Potsdam’s Crane School of Music. She is currently on the voice faculty at Montclair State University.
