Mijung Lee made her orchestral debut at the age of 11 performing Mozart's Concerto No.23 in A Major with the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra. She later performed the Mendelssohn Capriccio Brillante with the Tenerife Symphony and the Las Palmas Philharmonic in Canary Islands.
In 2001, Mijung Lee entered the Manhattan School of Music Precollege Division as a scholarship student of Solomon Mikowsky. As the winner of the Concerto Competition, she performed Beethoven’s Concerto No. 2 and Chopin’s Concerto No. 2 with the Manhattan School of Music Precollege orchestras. During the 2009 commemoration of Haydn’s bicentennial anniversary, Mijung Lee performed Haydn’s Concerto in D Major in Torrelodones, Spain.
As an active performer, she has appeared in principal halls in Seoul, Korea, and at the Sidney Opera House in Australia, and has given recitals in Spain, Canary Islands, and in various events and venues in New York City, including Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, Steinway Hall (XX Century Music) and in the “Gardens of Spain” concert series, presented by well-known author and pianist David Dubal.
Mijung Lee was the recipient of the American Music Teachers League ́s Lucy Boyan Balakian Award and of the MSM Precollege Division Dianne Flagello, Eva Van Gelder, Ralph Zola and scholarship awards. She was also the 1st Prize winner of the Nicholas Flagello Competition in New York City. In Korea, Mijung Lee won prizes in major competitions under Jae-Hee Kim’s direction, such as Music Journal Competition, Seoul National University of Education Competition and 3rd Junior Chopin Piano Competition to name a few.
She has worked with renowned artists in masterclasses and festivals in Cyprus, Germany, Italy and New York, including André-Michel Schub, Joaquín Achúcarro, Lev Natochenny, Vladimir Viardo, Kenneth Cooper, Christoph Eschenbach, Lorin Hollander, and Massimiliano Ferrati. As a chamber musician, Mijung has had masterclasses with Joseph Seiger and Michael Tree (Guarneri Quartet) and with Ida Kavafian at the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. She was among the winners of the Fuchs Competition at MSM, while studying with cellist Clive Greensmith (Tokyo String Quartet), violinist Sylvia Rosenberg, and clarinetist Charles Neidich.
Mijung Lee holds Bachelor's and Master's degrees from the Manhattan School of Music where she completed both programs in five years. At age 23, she was offered the Presidential Scholarship as well as a fellowship at MSM for the Doctor of Musical Arts degree, where she continued her studies with Solomon Mikowsky. As a doctoral candidate, she taught secondary piano classes/private lessons and keyboard techniques at the undergraduate and graduate levels, while also serving as the coordinator of Keyboard Skills department.
In 2014, Mijung had her debut recital in Larnaca, Cyprus, featuring a unique program of both solo and chamber works as well as a lecture. In the following years, she was invited to perform in the capital, Nicosia, presented by Avantgarde Cultural Foundation and gave a concert tour in four cities of Cyprus and Greece. Soon after, she served as a member of a jury panel at Musica Piano Competition in Kansas City, Missouri. Mijung Lee has recently received the Doctor of Musical Arts degree and is now in partnership with Steinway & Sons as an educator. She has joined the Artist Roster of Porto PianoFest (2020 online edition) in Portugal.
