Euntaek Kim

Piano Faculty
Pianist | Conductor | Composer

Hailed by The New York Times as “nimble” and “colorful,” Mr. Euntaek is receiving worldwide recognition for his brilliant work as pianist, conductor, and composer. He has been teaching at the Lindeblad School of Music since 2015 and has served as the Co-Chair of the Piano Department since 2023.

Native of Incheon, South Korea, Mr. Euntaek moved to the U.S. at the age of 13, after sweeping all of the major piano competitions in his native country. After his move, his prowess proved unstoppable: He won prizes in numerous competitions, including The 4th International Tchaikovsky Competition for Young Musicians, was admitted to The Juilliard School College Division at the age of 16 with the “Presidential Distinction,” and was the main feature of the 2005 PBS documentary titled “Euntaek Kim and Performance of Beethoven’s Choral Fantasy.”

After receiving the Bachelor’s and the Master’s degrees at The Juilliard School, Mr. Euntaek continued his formal studies at Yale University as the Artist Diploma candidate, which he completed in 2013. Kim’s main instructors were Jerome Lowenthal and Boris Berman.

Mr. Euntaek is currently in the midst of compiling live recordings of the complete piano works by Sergei Prokofiev, which can be found on his YouTube channel (www.youtube.com/@euntaekkim).

Outside of his busy schedule with performing, composing, and teaching, Mr. Euntaek spends his leisure time reading, learning languages, lifting weights, and cooking. He often performs together with his wife Ms. Sara Rossi, violin/viola faculty at LSM.

Mr. Euntaek’s teaching method for the beginner consists of instilling a thorough understanding of the piano basics, such as note-reading and harmony. His disciplined but friendly demeanor will guide the student through the fundamental aspects of piano learning with much entertainment and encouragement, interspersed with copious anecdotes of music history. For the intermediate or the advanced student, Mr. Euntaek will share his personal approach to music with a great focus on technique, which stems from his conservatory background. Mr. Euntaek is keen on customizing each student’s practice regimen in the most effective way, giving candid advice on what and how to practice on a weekly basis.
