Benjamin Hellman

Benjamin Hellman received his Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in Violin Performance at the Manhattan School of Music. He is also a New York and New Jersey State Certified Music Teacher in Grades K – 12. His teachers have included David Tobey, Byung Kwak, Patinka Kopec and Lisa Kim of the New York Philharmonic, with additional coaching and collaborations with Glenn Dicterow, Charles Castleman, Amnon Levy, Laurie Carney, Daniel Avshalomov, Pamela Frank, Sally Thomas, Peter Salaff, and Zvi Zeitlin, among other faculties from the renowned conservatories such as Juilliard School, Eastman School of Music and others.

Currently residing in New York City, Mr. Hellman enjoys a varied and exciting career as a performer and educator. His appearances in the New York area, as well as other parts of the country, have included solo recitals, concertos, chamber music, and orchestral performances at Avery Fisher Hall, Carnegie Hall, The Cathedral of St. John the Divine, Alice Tully Hall, Constitution Hall, Colden Center for the Arts, Purchase Hall, The Emelin Theatre, and at Tanglewood. He has performed regularly with The Symphony of Westchester, Greenwich Symphony, Binghamton Philharmonic, Yonkers Philharmonic, Westfield Symphony Orchestra, St. Cecilia Orchestra, Berkshire Opera Orchestra, New Jersey State Opera Orchestra, and New Rochelle Opera Orchestra. He has also subbed with the New York City Opera Orchestra and the New World Symphony. He has played under the baton of Charles Dutoit, Kurt Masur, Pierre Boulez, Pinchas Zukerman, Sidney Harth, Gerard Schwarz, Zdenek Macal, Sergiu Comissiona, David Alan Miller, Miguel Harth-Bedoya, and David Gilbert.

Mr. Hellman has been offered fellowships and scholarships to summer festivals such as Aspen, Chautauqua, Henry Mancini Institute, Music Academy of the West, Soesterberg Music Festival in the Netherlands, and the Las Vegas Music Festival. He has been a finalist in the NYASTA/NSOA solo competition, a concerto competition winner with the Yonkers Philharmonic, and recipient of the Hudson Valley Music Club's Francesca Church Award. He has appeared on the Rosie O Donnell Show accompanying Shania Twain and has performed live on the radio station WVIA in Pennsylvania.

As a passionate and enthusiastic spokesman for Music Education, Mr. Hellman has been teaching throughout the Tri-State Area since 2008. He has served repeatedly as a NYSSMA adjudicator and is a member of the American String Teachers Association.
